^^^ Yes, Vinnie solo of 'Wardencliff Tower' is one of my favorites.
Vinnie plays trademark singles between hands and feet and then modulates them across the time till.
he also played on a track called 'Thirteen' off one of the Zappa 'Can't do that on stage anymore' CDs
He sudivides the time using 5/16 + 4/8 and then takes it out where no man has gone before!!
Vinnie is the God of subdivisions and polyrhythms!
Andy, I'll agree with you that 'Thirteen' is SICK (as is the classic Holdsworth solo!) but the subdivision is actually 5/8 and 4/4. I hate to nitpick, but Zappa's intro to the tune is one of my favorite Zappa lines of all time: "...this next song is in 13....it's subdivided 5/8 and 4/4 if you want to clap your hands....1-2-1-2-3-1-2-3-4..." CLASSIC Zappa!!!
...ahhh forgot that bit, I was just singing it in my head.

-pasic 88 video is the most amazing drumming performance i've ever seen Vinnie on.
i thought i had seen most of his genius until i came across that video.and it's 1988 for god's sake.
just...ok words are not enough to describe the intensity of what he demonstrated that day.

As you can tell, I'm a big fan of the early Vinnie. His feel is soooo deep on all of those recordings, plus he's pulling off all that ridiculous sh!t. Way ahead of his time IMO.
